Madzia's Vineyard is new to the Sandler line up for 2017.  It is owned and farmed by Michael Staiger, and is located it the Bennett Valley appellation of Sonoma County.  The one acre site is planted entirely to Dijon clone 667.

2017 was for the most part an ideal growing season with plenty of winter rains, and a cool, foggy summer.  Severe heat waves came in late August and early September, and changed the harvest dates at Madzia's from early October to mid September.  The fruit came off the vines in good shape, and we're pleased with the results.  The fires that hit Sonoma and Napa during the second week of October forced the evacuation of the entire Bennett Valley, including Madzia's.  We're happy to report the Staiger's home and vineyard survived the fires just fine.  Enjoy this from 2018 through 2026.

Updated tasting note as of June 2023.  The '17 Madzia's still seems like a young Pinot, although it is starting to show some secondary characteristics.  Enjoy this from 2023 through 2029.
