2015 Boer Vineyard Grenache
For the first four years Sandler has made Grenache from Richard Boer's Vineyard in the Chalone appellation, it was harvested during the month of October. 2015 was an incredibly dry and warm year, so the tiny crop came off the vines about a month early, in mid-September. Although there was only enough Grenache for one barrel, the fruit was perfectly ripe and made another stellar wine.
As usual for Sandler, we used the 100% whole cluster fermentation technique on the Boer Grenache. It gives the wine a young, grapey, carbonic maceration flavor as well as some herbal notes from the stems. Expect this 2015 Grenache to evolve slowly and be at its best by 2019 and drink well through 2027.
